Residents of 1st Marine Gate in Warri, Delta State have appealed to the State Government and Authorities of Warri South Local Government Area to repair the road in their area and save them from untold hardships.
The residents made the appeal in Warri yesterday when newsmen visited the area.
The residents noted that 1st Marine Gate which links Etuwevwe, Gbiaye and 3rd Marine Gate has been abandoned by Delta State and Warri South Local Government, pointing out that they lack good roads in the area.
One of the residents, Chief Ekemesode Peter in his lamentation cried that they take vehicles to mechanics on daily basis due to the terrible state of the road which also makes the environment non conducive for them.
While noting that it is the duty of the Delta State Government to construct and repair roads across the state, Peter also accused most of the contractors handling government contracts of unprofessionalism in
the execution of their jobs.
“Most of the
contractors handling road projects lack the knowledge of constructing a good
road that will last for years. Constructing road is stage by stage. It is the
duty of the ward chairman to write to the local and the state governments.”
Another resident of the area, Mr. Edwin Ikpasa calls on the Delta State Government to come to the area and have a firsthand information on the sufferings they go through as result of the poor state of the 1st Marine Gate road.
Ikpasa hinted newsmen that youths of the area resorted to self help during a recent environmental sanitation day to sand-filled pot holes on the road with sand and blocks’, adding that erosion has washed
away the sands thereby making it difficult for vehicles especially commercial transporters to access the road.
A pharmacist in the area, Mr. Oghobore Emu stressed the need for the Delta State Government need to repair the road saying the road has expired, adding that a lot of cars get spoilt due to the state of the
road and government should come and put the road in good shape.
