Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa today announced the dissolution of Hon. Joel Thomas Onohwakpo led Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, DBIR, a statutory board whose stipulated tenure was billed to expire June 2017.
It would be recalled that on assumption of office May 29, 2015, Dr. Okowa invited Mr. Thomas Onohwakpo to Agbor to explain the activities of his board, but Mr. Onohwakpo gave a credible stewardship of how his board raised the State IGR from average N500 million monthly to about N4.5 billion.
It was stipulated that the governor’s cold feet towards the board was as a result of the fact that they were appointed by former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan, who Governor Okowa believed didn’t back his gubernatorial ambition, even after the PDP Governorship primaries.
There are unconfirmed reports that since assumption of office May 29, 2015, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had deliberately starved the Onowakpo led board of fund, without paying their salaries and allowances and the resultant effect has been a drastic drop in the State Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.
