Breaking news: Wellington hotel and Joma foods sealed over N2bn bank debt

WARRI - A popular hotel in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State Wellington Hotels and Suites and Joma Frozen Foods Products Limited owned by late Chief Mrs. Agbonifo  has been shutdown by a court order over two billion Naira allegedly owed a commercial bank.

The bank officials accompanied by security agents from the court were said to seal off both premisses and business activities abruptly brought to a halt.

The court order demanding the closure of the hotel and frozen food were printed on both premises to mark enforcement of the court order.

We can report that apart from Staff of Wellington Hotel and Joma Frozen Food Products, lodgers in the hotel and customers of the fish industry were seen evacuating to the near quiet premises as
security personnels comprising the Nigeria Mobile Police on on guard duty at the hotel and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC were hostile to persons even journalists coming into the premises.

The NSCDC were stationed with three patrol vans with one of them having Reg. No: CD38A01 with Men of the Nigeria Mobile Police Force on guard duty at the Wellington Hotel barred journalists from covering
the incident in a bid to shield information from the general public.

An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps who accosted Our Correspondent as at 1:49pm when he arrived the premises of Joma Frozen Foods said, “Nobody is permitted into the yard but anybody
coming out is free to do so. we don’t want any media. we don’t want any journalist here. when we need you, we will send for you.”

A management staff of the Joma Frozen Foods who craved anonymity corroborated this reporter after he introduced himself to him as a journalist sent from the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Warri to follow up the matter.

According to the Joma Frozen Staff ,”No external camera is allowed here apafrt from our internal camera, no press is permitted for now or you want to further tarnish the image of Oga?”

The police on guard duty at Wellington hotel brutalized, seized his photo camera as well as writing materials and tried to collect the Journalist identity card from him but his insistence to leave his identity card led to a policeman, Garba  giving him a hot slap as they threatened  to arrest and prosecute him for invasion into the property (hotel) on his arrival from Joma Frozen Foods Limited at about 2:30pm.

A Mobile Policeman who claimed to be the superior of the others on guard duty said” I am a policeman and I am a lawyer too. we don’t respect any journalist, wait until you are invited otherwise, I will order my men to beat you the more.if you like go and meet then Inspector General of Police, he cannot do me anything.”

As at the time of filing this report, the bank officials could not be reached for comments.
