Delta Police gun down two for armed robbery


The Delta State Police Command has said that its men at Isiokolo, Ethiope West Area has gun down two armed robbers in a gun duel with police.

This was contained in a press statement by DSP Celestina Kalu, Police Public Relations Officer today. 

According to her, "On 29/8/2015 at about 0630hrs, the DPO Isiokolo Division received distress call from one Paul Baraua ‘m’, manger of Aleakue Filling Station, Okpara that he was under attack by armed robbers. 

"Consequently, the DPO led patrol men to the scene. However, before the patrol team got to the scene the hoodlums had left, but the victim was able to identify one of the hoodlums and he led policemen to arrest the identified criminal.

"The suspect confessed to the crime and volunteered to lead a combined team of policemen and vigilante for the arrest of the rest gangsters at Okpara Island. The hoodlums who unknowingly laid ambush for the security team suddenly opened fire on them and wounded one of the vigilante men.

"In the ensuing gun duel, two of the armed bandits were fatally wounded, and they gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital.

"Items recovered from them include two cut to size guns, four live and four expended cartridges."

Meanwhile, the earlier arrested suspect is undergoing investigation, while the injured vigilante man is responding to treatment in a hospital at Okpara.
