Military siege to Gbaramatu is unholy - NAGS

By Akpokona Omafuaire

‎WARRI - THE National Association of Gbaramatu  Students  (NAGS) has described the military siege to some Gbaramatu communities by the military in the wake of recent bombing of pipeline as 'dastard and unholy'.

This was contained in a press statement issued yesterday in Warri by Comrade Ekpemupolo Seiyefa, President and Comrade Ituebi. I. Onimide, Secretary General.

The statement said that the military action could be best described as Rambo-like invasion as the perpetrators could be invaders from other places whose ulterior motives is to bring the Kingdom down.

"The invation of Okpeleama, a community in Gbaramatu is like scene  reminiscent of the 2009  military invasion of the  kingdom as if has inarguably the inhabitants of the kingdom a mixed feeling of war and terror.

"Consequently, people have started relocating to other places for safety.  The invasion has further crippled academic, economic and social activities in the peace Loving and law abiding kingdom.

"In the midst of this undeserving anarchy and strife sponsored by the Federal Government and the JTF in the Kingdom, it is appalling to know that the people of Gbaramatu know little or nothing as regards the reason for the invasion.

"Looking into the recent moves  be it "holy"or "unholy" by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the JTF critically, We the Members of The National Association of Gbaramatu Students (NAGS) have resolved and to submit that, It is illogical, inhuman, barbaric and dastadly." the statement said.

NAGS further stated that "for a government that is instituted to bring Peace, development, and unity among its subordinates but is found harrassing, intimidating, witch hunting and invading the same helpless subordinates it is expected to protect.

"It is our take that we condemn the act of invasion and the wrong signals the JTF is sending out to the rest of this country and the international  community at large."

The group task the federal government to be diligent in finding who the perpetrators are rather than succumb to blacmail by people suspected to be enemies of the kingdom who are out to aveenge personal vendetta.

"We are yet to recover from the inhunan invasion and bombadment of Gbaramatu kingdom aptly sponsored by the federal Government of Nigeria in 2009, in the name of fighting insurgency.

"We are still mourning our aged fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and children mercilessly, coldly, and brutally murdered by JTF.

"Consequently, we would wish to charge the Federal Government and the JTF to refrain from blind and ill motive onslaught on the highly devastated, marginalised and exploited but still peace loving Gbaramatu people.

"This is because Gbaramatu kingdom is not at war, neither is it a safe haven to terrorists, as we presently perceive in the Northern part of Nigeria.

"We charge the Buhari and the APC led Federal Government to deliver their campaign promises to Nigerians  and distance themselves from witch-hunt and the infringement of the rights of the sons and daughters of Gbaramatu kingdom.

"It would be laughable, amusing and completely absurd to well meaning and right thinking Nigerians and the international community that the Buhari led Federal Government in their claims of fighting corruption have narrowed down their tools of investigation to that of Rambo-like invasion of a whole kingdom.

"The act is said to be barbaric, rascally, demonic and crafty as the result  of the on going invasion will be that of social unrest and the complete stoppage of  economic, academic, and other activities in the oil rich Gharamatu kingdom.

"We are also aware of the finger-pointing and names  calling of High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo a.k.a Tompolo and other law abiding indigenes of Gbaramatu as being responsible for the recent vandalization of High Presure oil pipelines located in Okpeleama of Gbaramatu  kingdom.

"We wish to state here that, nobody or group of persons under any unbrella have claimed responsibility of the dastardly act hence; we advice the Federal Government to desist from its obnoxious attempts of blackmailing our resource statemen and women to carryout its hidden agenda of crippling and destroying every atom of peace in the kingdom that will fast track development, academic activities and human capacity devrlopment."
