WARRI - THIRTEEN families residing in a storey building along Ojabugbe
street in Warri were Sunday sacked by a raging fire which destroyed property worth millions of Naira at about 9am.
Similar fire also consumed another storey building housing Tonvic Hotel in Effurun wrecking unquantifiable damage, as goods worth millions were burnt.
The cause of both fire could not be ascertained by our correspondent who visited the scenes.
But rescue efforts were intensified to save wares of building material merchants trading under the bottom floor of the hotel building.
One of the Ojabugbe fire victims who declined comments was seen rescuing his chair and burnt personal effects from the burnt building.
Felix Isaac, another victim, said the fire started while he was still asleep on Sunday when the fire started from the kitchen of his neighbours simply identified as Mama Ike, a Kerosene seller.
Isaac however alleged that Mama Ike who frying plantain had left the plantain for her13 year old son, Ike to take care of, that minutes later, flames
engulfed the top of the storey building.
He added that rescuers who came poured water and detergent (Omo) mixtures to help put off the fire before Men of the Delta State Fire arrived.
"Nobody left with anything but I
managed to rescue my plasma and home theatre. My clothes were burnt,
every other things apart from my plasma and home theatre, the others
could not save a pin.” Isaac lamented.
Isaac also noted that since the incident, no government representatives had visited the scene of the incident with a view to giving them succor.
he appealed to relevant government authorities to come to their rescue
and save them the sudden homelessness which they find themselves.
