Candle fire kill mother of three

Tragedy struck, yesterday, at Isheri-Osun area of Lagos, after a mother of three died from severe burns sustained in a fire that engulfed a building on Durowoju Oluwa Street.
Doctors are currently battling to resuscitate her widower, who sustained burns while trying to rescue her.
The fire, which started at about 10p.m. on Tuesday, was reportedly caused by a lit candle from one of the rooms in the building.
The explosion of a gas cylinder and a power generating set filled with petrol escalated the fire.
Eyewitness  blames husband
A resident, who spoke with Vanguard, blamed the deceased’s husband for the demise of his wife.
He said: “When the incident happened, Mrs Busari was in one of the rooms, apparently trapped. Her husband ran inside and tried to rescue her all alone without calling for help. A man, popularly known as Scopio, rescued some occupants.
“All of a sudden, we saw Mr Busari bringing out his severely burnt wife. He also had burns on his arms. His wife was rushed to SO FINE Hospital along Isheri-Ijegun Road, where doctors battled in vain to save her. She died at about 11a.m. this morning (yesterday).
“Her husband is still in the hospital. We learned that the doctors did not even attend to him because his family did not deposit any money.”
Lagos State Fire Service Director, Rasaq Fadipe, confirmed the incident, adding “Ikotun fire truck was deployed to the scene and eventually put out the fire.”
