Delta trains 145 youths in farming

The Delta State Government has presented farm implements, cassava stem, financial support, among other incentives to 145 trained youths, in bid to boost food supply in the state.

The Chief Job and Wealth Creation Officer of the state, Prof. Eric Eboh, who presented the materials to the first batch of 145 youths for 2022 empowerment circle, urged them to get acquainted with global best practices in agricultural production

He said, “YAGEP was inaugurated on the 26th of August 2015, with the aim at creating jobs and wealth by training, establishing and supporting youths to become agricultural entrepreneurs gainfully self-employed and employers of labour.

“This set of youths under brown YAGEP refers to youths who already have agricultural skills and own agricultural enterprises but are given refresher training in practical and managerial skills plus support packages to grow and sustain their existing enterprises.

“We have 145 youths in this first batch. We have given cassava stems and financial support as start-up for them to run agricultural enterprises. We are targeting to train and empower over 800 youths in 2022.”

Eboh stated that the youth agricultural entrepreneurs programme was one of the flagship job and wealth creation programmes of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

He said since 2015, thousands of youths had been trained, established and supported in various agricultural enterprises, including poultry, crop production, piggery, fish production, agro-processing and agribusiness.

Eboh said that YAGEP had contributed 3,084.40 metric tonnes of cassava roots, 2,298.46 metric tonnes of poultry, 72,280,767 eggs and 6,682.91 metric tonnes of fish, among others.

2023: INEC will have self to blame if it fails to what's right-Commodre Nesiama

The Delta South Senatorial Candidate of the New Nigerian People's Party, NNPP, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama today said the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC will have itself to blame if it fails to do what's right in the forthcoming general elections in the Country.

Commodore Nesiama handed down the warning in an interview with Our Correspondent in Warri.

"By and large, am not going to talk much about INEC. I believe they know what to do and they will do what's right. If they don't do what's right, they will have themselves to blame. The law is there to deal with anybody that messes up with the electoral process. We are going to have our votes."

While noting that he is going to checkmate the electoral process as a trained intelligence officer, Commodore Nesiama said he is not going to sleep over the matter.

According to him,"I will bring everything that I have learnt in life here to ensure that we have the election properly conducted. And if it's not properly conducted, we will also raise clear cut evidence to prove it."

He said his concentration is to get the vote of the electorates during and after the elections.

Earlier, Commodore Nesiama said the INEC is not a problem to him in the elections as he does not have any reason to doubt what the electoral body has put in place for the election.

In his words,"A lot of people have commended the INEC especially in what they have done especially this new electoral act that has been put in place. 

"For me, am watching but INEC is not my problem. INEC is not my problem because we can take care of them easily by making sure that we are popular with the people. If you're popular with the people and the people believe in you, they will cast the vote for you and even defend the vote. 

"So, my concentration is not INEC whether they're good or bad because there places where even INEC candidate was bad, even opposition parties winning elections. That was in the past. Generally people believe that with the beavers and every other things, that the election will be more credible. That's why people are more even confident we will win our election because we are popular. 

"People like what we are talking about what we want to do and our pedigree also speak for us."

Okowa is wicked, an ingrate - Ominimini

EFFURUN - THE Campaign Director General, All Progressives Congress, APC,  Delta Central, Chief (Dr.) Ominimini Obiuwevbi has accused the Delta State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa of wickedness and ingratitude.

Obiuwevbi made the declaration in Effurun yesterday while inaugurating the Delta Emancipation Movement for Age (DEMA-23).

He accused the Governor of receiving Billions of Naira monthly with nothing on ground to show for it whilst plunging the state into huge debts.

According to him, "Okowa has failed woefully, Okowa has underdeveloped Delta State. Every four weeks, Billions of Naira comes into Delta State from Abuja. But these billions are not seen anywhere. And to add insult to that, Okowa is borrowing billions of Naira.

"Okowa is wicked, Okowa is an ingrate. Okowa won't have been known in Delta State today if not for Ibori. Ibori made him Commissioner twice, Uduaghan also made him SSG.

"But today Okowa says Uduaghan is not a good man, he says Ibori is not a good man, is he the only good man in the state?

"A man who made you a Commissioner is not a good man, you are recruiting people to fight Ibori. Okowa is an ingrate for recruiting people to be fighting Ibori who made him what he is today.

"Okowa has chosen his daughter to go to the House of Assembly, yet the man who made him SSG, Governor Uduaghan, he stopped the daughter from going to the House of Assembly." Obiuwevbi added.

On his part, Chief Do-Good O. Efe-Nogo, Director General, Delta Emancipation Movement for Agege (DEMA) said

Delta Emancipation Movement for Agege (DEMA-2023) is a think tank and grass root support group that cuts across age, sex, ethnic group and political affiliation to mobilize for positive change and transformation of Delta State through His Excellency, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Rt. Hon. Friday Ossai Osanebi and APC. 

"We consider Agege/Osanebi as the most qualified to emancipate Deltans from the shackles of underdevelopment foisted on the State by PDP’s over two decades of degenerative and rudderless leadership.

"As we all know, since the return to civilian rule in 1999, the fortunes of our dear State has plummeted. When states like Lagos, Bornu, Ebonyi, Rivers, Kaduna, Cross River, Edo, Akwa Ibom, and others are making tremendous progress in terms of education, infrastructure, health care, social service, Delta is lagging behind." He said.

NBA commends Udu Monarch for donating towards Secretariat building

UDU - THE Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Udu Branch has commended it's Royal member, His Majesty, E.B.O Delekpe Esq, Owhorhu 1, Ovie of Udu Kingdom for donating N500,000 towards the NBA Udu Law Centre building.

The commendation was contained in a statement yesterday signed by Kingsley Asagba Esq and Lawrence Ayewa Esq, Chairman and Secretary of the Branch.

According to the statement, "The branch wants to specially thank our Royal member, His Majesty, E.B.O Delekpe Esq, Owhorhu 1, Ovie of Udu Kingdom who had pledged N500,000 for the building of our law center building and has fulfilled same.

"The king has been very supportive to the branch, he's a true father. We just want to thank him for the gesture."

The Branch also used the medium to commend the Delta State Governor for appointing one of its Members as Special Assistant.

"We to thank His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing our member, Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha as Senior Special Assistant, (political matters) to the Executive Governor of Delta State.

"We also congratulate Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha on his appointment, more grease to him."

PTI clocks 50, showcases achievements

EFFURUN - THE Principal/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Henry Adimula, Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has said that the institution has achieved its objectives, while reeling out its achievements to mark 50 years celebration.

Adimula, made this known at the Institute in Effurun, Delta State,  during a world Press Conference to herald the golden jubilee anniversary celebration of the PTI.

He said that domesticating training in the  Petroleum Industry, at the Institute, will help Nigeria save vital foreign exchange  thereby impacting positively on the nation’s economy

Adimula  urged the leaders in the oil industries to come and  take a tour of the exceptional facilities that gave huge potentials for training in all aspects of the Petroleum Industry operations.

“This facilities should serve as a platform for domesticating training in the industry and thus saving vital foreign exchange for the nation’s economy.” He said.

He commended leaders of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) for sponsoring the Institute upgrade project which culminated in infrastructure upgrade and procurement of the facilities that placed PTI as the only institute in Sub-Sahara Africa with the magnitude of training facilities that can address the contemporary training of workers of the oil and gas industry in the continent.

"The last 50 years of the life of the Institute were glorious years of exceptional delivery of training, innovation and technological development.

“From it’s  establishment in 1972, till date, the Institute has graduated well over 50,000(fifty  thousand) technologists and technicians and other technical personnel in various areas in oil and gas and allied Industry operations

“Our graduates continue to be the most preferred choice for employment in companies across sectors related and not related to the oil and gas industry by virtue of the high quality confined them through vigorous training and education which place them at a decisive advantage over other candidates

“The Institute is  equally fully engaged  in the manpower development for deep offshore diving and deep offshore operations through mounting of specialized courses in underwater operations.

“The Institute was responsible for the training of the take off staff for the Warri Refinery and Petrochemical Company (WRPC), Kaduna Refinery and Petrochemical Company (KRPC),  and Eleme  Petrochemical Company Limited (EPCL) now Indorama Petrochemical Company."

Going forward, Adimula said, "Our vision for the next fifty years,  is for PTI to be the Energy training hub in Africa where our training, research and development efforts will be all encompassing as the world ambit of the energy mix shall be the subject of training, research and development."

"Our vision remains to  become the leading oil and gas technological Institute in Africa and our avowed mission is to provide competent technological  manpower through quality training, consultancy and research for the Petroleum and Allied Industries."

The PTI Principal expressed optimism that the next 50years will  be a period that will redefine the Petroleum Training Institute as it blazes the trail in delivery of training solutions, research and development while fully appreciating the dynamics of the global oil and gas industry and the challenges posed by the global energy transition.

EFCC Arrests 95 Suspected Internet Fraudsters

PORT HARCOURT - OPERATIVES of the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested ninety five (95) suspected internet fraudsters in Warri, Delta State. 

They were arrested on Thursday,  September 29, 2022, in a sting operation, at Adesa Ughonton and Jeddo axis of Warri, Delta State for suspected fraudulent internet-related activities.

This was contained in a statement by the Commission on its verified Twitter handle @officialEFCC.

They named the suspects as: Idama Fejiro, Peace Wisdom Ede, Akpoyibo Daniel Akpevwe, Adam Yakubu Ayo, Sultan Akayinode Damilare, Ibrahim Sani, Karo Matthew Joseph, Idowu Abdul Malik, Bright Omokiniovo Chovwe, Thankgod Idama Kobiro, Okito Rukevwe Kelvin, Timothy Lucky.

Others are; Akpojotor Godstime, Omagbemi Jeffery, Marvis Lucky, Agbodobiri Sunny, Segun Bakare, Umukoro Christopher, Abomodje Success Erorome, Irivwieri Scholar, Arisi Oghenero, Akoibe Ovie, Oriareghan Godsent, Onoja Victory.

Emmanuel Anuko, Charles Blessing, Ogodo Mamuzo, Precious Tobukuma, Ogbeke Forgive and  Wisdom Williams were also included.
